Sajid
Bulig, a 13 year old, is a hero for what he had done and will be remembered by many
in the published textbooks for children. The book written
by Ela Rose Sablaon and Lazelle Rose
Pelingo, which was published by Rex Bookstore, called “Ang Lahing Pilipino sa Nagbabagong
Panahon” is where we can find the story of what happened and know more
about him for his bravery. His family is proud of him for what he did, and they
offer prayers and flowers at his tomb and the monument made for him every July
8. While children become inspired by his story of courage and heroism.
“The 13-year-old boy who died while saving
four children from drowning after a pagoda sank during fluvial festivities here
on July 8, 1993, has been hailed as a modern hero in a newly published school
textbook,” is the main idea of Carmela Reyes when she wrote this article on
July 20, 2007. You can find his story in the book “Ang Lahing Pilipino sa
Nagbabagong Panahon”, under the chapter “Mga Huwarang Filipino”, under
the topic “Mga Makabagong Bayani.” You can also find a monument of him holding
a small child in his arms, which illustrates how they honored him for what he
did, in the barangay of Bambang, Malolos City. I feel that this message honors
Sajid Bulig for what he had done, which was saving four other children which in
turn took his life. To others it might seem his death was a tragedy, but when
you look at it at another way, he saved four lives, lives which will always
remember him and be grateful for him for what he did. Carmela’s article illustrates
how much she, and others, honor Sajid Bulig for the courage and heroism he
showed that day. The article is very suiting for people who want to have a
mentor or hero to believe in when growing up, and it tells us that anyone,
whether young or old, can be become a hero.
